For those who have lost a dog recently, I struggled with "why". Fezzik was perfect! He was the youngest certified therapy dog in Kansas City, he brought joy to so many, and he knew what I was feeling before I knew. Why did G-d take him after 8 short years? Now I deeply believe that G-d's plan is beyond my comprehension (hence it's his plan, not mine). But that did not take away the hurt and searching for an answer. Now, six years later our second Goldendoodle, "Chief", just turned 5 years old and I see some of Fezzik's soul in him. But what I also see is that my young children who are now 7 through 14 years old did not need a dog who had eyes only for me. They needed a dog to know what they were feeling when they didn't know, who is happiest laying in the middle of their sleepovers, and who nuzzles them for a hug. I needed Fezzik, but my family needed Chief and I am in the end thankful all turned out this way.

My little guy has a growth delay, so I got him a puppy to help deal with it. He's going to be a pretty good size best friend, 4 months old already weighing 43 PDS. I got Sebastian when he was 8wks old for my son. We started noticing something in Sebastian hind area. Then he got a cherry eye, which we panicked over due to not ever hearing of it. My son was upset and wanted to take him in. We went to Stonehouse animal hospital in Topeka, which turned out to be the worst experience ever for me and my son. The lady took only a second with Sebastian eye and started focusing on his hind area. All she did was feel around on his hind area, basically told us this dog was doomed and we needed to get him to k-state right away. My son fell apart thinking he was going to lose his best friend, which has helped him in so many ways the last four months. I have a wonderful friend who turned me to heartland vet. In just one visit we felt like family, Sebastian was so relaxed and happy. To the point now, Sebastian is not doomed and is being well taking care of and they have restored hope in my little man. I can't thank them enough the way they turned things around for my son and best friend. Thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts!
In 2011 I had a gorgeous 8 year old Goldendoodle, Fezzik, whose health suddenly deteriorated. On the outside he looked the picture of health, but his lungs filled up with fluid and in minutes his condition would decay to near death. I took him to K-State Veterinary Hospital and in the end his condition was untreatable and he died on the operating table. I was emotionally ripped up and this review is actually the first time I have revisited the experience. My memory of the time is blurred except for the senior veterinary student Amy who treated both me and my dog. She saw what a part of me Fezzik was, she kept me updated through the process, and she arranged for me to have a coffin on the way out (which I had not paid for). I remember her walking with me to the door and the sounds of dogs barking as if in salute of the loss of this great canine soul. A few weeks later I got a letter that Amy had made a donation to the K-State Veterinary Collage in honor of Fezzik and enclosed was an impression in plaster of Fezzik's paw. I keep very few personal items, but this imprint along with the donation letter has been by my bed every since. I don't know Amy, but I know the kind soul who found how to connect to my tragedy and treated and cared in the right way. Now via the wonders of Google search I see she has married and bought Heartland Veterinary Health Center. I want to attest that my experience gives me full confidence that the fourth year student who took such amazing care of Fezzik and me is the same person who will do the same for you and your pet.
